Art In a Changing Landscape

Detroit and the Disconnected Logic of Funding

Directed by Steve Panton, featuring Halima Afi Cassells, Linda Campbell, Matt Corbin, Bryce Detroit, Scott Hocking, Sydney G James, Aaron Johnson-Ortiz, Juan Martinez, and Billy Mark

A pangolin noses its way from Detroit’s North End to the City’s Stadium District, passing by Milwaukee Junction, birthplace of the US automotive industry, and the Detroit Institute of Arts. Artists, researchers, and activists explore the relationship between their lived experiences and the patterns of uneven development in Metropolitan Detroit and its art ecosystem. This short film is both a love letter to the beautiful city of Detroit and a challenge to reassess the way art is and should be funded in such a rapidly changing landscape.

Duration: 24 minutes 13 seconds. A Three Lyons Creative Production
